Merlin Custom Home Builders is celebrating its 30th anniversary as the premier custom home builder in Las Vegas and Southern Nevada. Steve Jones founded the family-owned and operated company in 1989 and was joined by his brother, Bart, five years later. The two have worked together to build Merlin’s unmatched reputation for honesty, reliability and quality.

Merlin’s accomplishments and unique reputation for service were recognized in 2017 when the firm was awarded the prestigious National Custom Home Builder of the Year Award by the 2,200 member National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The Custom Home Builder of the Year Award distinguishes firms for their innovative achievements, professional leadership and creativity in crafting one-of-a-kind custom homes.

As one of only 12 firms in the nation to hold this distinction, Steve and Bart Jones, and the Merlin team, were recognized for community leadership and expertise in converting client wish lists into unique homes, as well as for contributing to the overall strength of the home building industry.

The Jones brothers and Merlin Custom Home Builders have built an impeccable reputation throughout the Las Vegas community and on the national custom home building scene. The firm is lauded in the industry for their commitment to maintaining the highest quality of building standards. They have curated a powerful client list and have sealed over $50 million in handshake contracts; all testaments to the trust and respect the Jones brothers have developed over the years.

Developing strong relationships based on integrity and respect has allowed us to bring our clients’ dreams and visions to life,” stated Steve Jones, Founder & CEO of Merlin Custom Home Builders. “We are grateful to our clients and partners for the opportunities we have had over the past 30 years and hope to be building custom homes for their families for generations to come.”

Steve and Bart Jones and the Merlin team have also developed and maintained many lasting relationships throughout their 30 years in business. From business partners and contractors to suppliers and even their own staff, the firm’s long-time relationships have contributed to Merlin’s ability to create and develop innovative design concepts that transform their client’s dreams and visions into unique, luxury homes and condominiums that exceed expectations in both design and function.

Merlin builds in the most prestigious neighborhoods and understands every detail needed to produce a breathtaking living environment with a timeless design that maximizes the views and full potential of each property. A major contributing factor to Merlin’s success in completing these multi-million dollar, spectacular homes within a specific timeline and budget has been the development of systems and procedures that keep each project organized and on track. The Merlin system includes personal visits, checklists, calls, emails and weekly customized accounting reports that address every budget line item. They also provide clients with timelines, specific dates for decisions, and cash flow projections; all contributing to the transparency and open line of communication that keeps their clients in the know.

“The open line of communication and systematic approach to every aspect of the building project is very popular with our clients and eliminates any surprises in the end,” explained Bart Jones, CFO of Merlin Custom Home Builders.

During the past 30 years, with an Unlimited Full-B Category General Contractor’s license and the support of the Las Vegas community, Merlin has designed, built and remodeled more than 200 spectacular homes and estates ranging from $1 to $25 million. The firm’s unique and innovative designs have garnered awards and recognition in local, regional and national publications. Merlin Custom Home Builders has been featured and acknowledged in over 70 magazines and 300 newspaper articles including Architectural Digest, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Chicago Sun Times, Builder Magazine and Luxury Las Vegas.

The firm has also been honored by being awarded several special projects, including the building of a home for the “Street of Dreams” at MacDonald Highlands, as well as The New American Home 2004®. They have the distinction of building custom homes for two past presidents of the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association and for many top gaming and corporate executives in Las Vegas.

Merlin Custom Home Builders, its employees, Steve, and Bart continue to cement their local footprint through their support of local charities and the community. Steve Jones was a founding member of the Boys Hope-Girls Hope Group Home in Las Vegas. The Boys Hope-Girls Hope organization helps academically capable and motivated children-in-need to meet their full potential as men and women by providing value-centered, family-like homes, opportunities and education through college. Merlin Custom Home Builders, along with Del Webb, its contractors and suppliers, donated time and materials to create a 4,700-square-foot home to house six boys and three staff members.

Merlin Custom Home Builders also supports the Three Square Foodbank, The American Lung Association, American Heart Association, Boy Scouts of America, Special Olympics, the UNLV Foundation, and many others causes within the community.

Steve and Bart were born with building in their blood, and a sense of pride in and commitment to the Las Vegas area was instilled in them from a very early age. Their grandparents Burley Monroe Jones and Arlie Benton Jones came to the Las Vegas Valley from Missouri in the early 1930’s to help build the Boulder (Hoover) Dam. Steve and Bart’s parents, Herbert Monroe Jones and Sara Sanders Jones, came to Las Vegas in 1947. Herbert served as the Clark County Deputy District Attorney and later went into private practice.  He was active in banking (having filed the Articles of Incorporation for the Bank of Las Vegas and served on its Board of Directors for more than 30 years), gaming law (representing many of the Las Vegas casinos at various times and serving on the committee to create corporate gaming statutes), and eventually, politics (having served as a Nevada State Senator when he was appointed to fill the remainder of the term vacated by the election of James Bilbray to the US Congress). Their mother, Sara Jane Sanders, raised five successful children in Las Vegas and was an active member of the Junior Service League and a founding member of the First Presbyterian Church of Las Vegas. Steve and Bart acknowledge that their parents are equally responsible for their accomplishments that have continued to contribute to the Las Vegas community.

This is an exciting celebration for Merlin Custom Home Builders and the Jones family.
